Tables & Desks
Custom Tables and Desks bring the natural warmth
of hardwoods to work and play!
Designing your custom table or desk is easy.
1
Choose the Wood
As a hardwood retailer, we have dozen's of wood species available, from domestic to exotic imports. A few of the more popular choices for countertops include maple, ash and white oak. But there are many other species available. Then when you add your choice of color-rich stain, the possibilities are endless!

Choose the Construction to suit your decorating style
For tables and desks, most people prefer the look of Wide Plank. It consist of each plank being glued side-by-side to create width. It can be finished with a food-safe topcoat that resists scratches, and requires little-to-no maintenance.
However, some people still prefer the look of Butcher Block for tables and desks. Click here to learn more about Butcher Block construction.

Don't forget the Edge! Tables and desks have a routered profile on all exposed edges. This can be a decorative addition to the design or a something very simple. (Today, the 1/8 round over edge is most popular.) Click on the photo to view edge profiles.

Choose the finish
While you may choose a flat finish that highlights the wood’s natural grain or a high gloss for a more modern appearance, the finish is the most important step! As part of our commitment to being an eco-friendly company, we’re proud to offer two finishing options:
Our most popular choice is our commercial-grade, water-based, polycarbonate topcoat. It seals and protects the wood grain while providing a beautiful, easy to clean surface. Available in flat, satin and gloss.
We also offer Rubio Monocoat Natural Oil Finish. It's a plant-based, hardwax oil
that is sustainable and also free of many chemicals found in traditional finishes.
It’s unique quality and durability produces a very natural, authentic feel to the
surface of the wood.

FAQs: Desks & Tables
Are wood tables and desks easy to maintain?
Surprisingly, yes! With today's products, it's simple to choose a finish that
will stand up to daily use and still be easy to maintain. As part of our
commitment to being an eco-friendly company, we’re proud to offer two
finishing options--a commercial grade, water-based polycarbonate topcoat
and a plant-based, hard-wax oil. Each finish offers unique benefits, but both
are durable and food safe.
What is the best wood for my tabletop?
There is no one answer to this question! The choice comes down to your
preference for grain and color. For high-use surfaces such as dining tables
or desks, we recommend higher-density woods. This includes
red and white oak, ash, walnut, birch, and maple. For surfaces with occasional
use, you could consider softer woods such as poplar, cedar or cypress.
What about legs?
We can custom build legs from any species of hardwood. Or, you can check
out all the great leg options at the links below. You can even have the legs
shipped directly to us, and we'll install them for a small fee.
We have purchased from several of these vendors and had good success.
However, we have to make the disclaimer that we make no guarantee about
the product or service of the independent companies listed below and your
experience may differ.

Flowyline.com -- Modern metal table legs. We have no experience with this company, but they offer some really interesting designs, so they may be worth checking out.
Can I have in-desk power outlets?
Absolutely! Many customers select their own power outlet from websites like
Amazon, Rockler or Woodcraft and have them shipped directly to us. We'll cut
the hole and place the outlet for a small fee. (Electrical hookup not included.
How is the top made?
For tables and desks, both wide plank AND butcher block are popular
construction styles. Click here to see how each structure is built and how it
influences the appearance of the top. You can also view edge profiles at the
same link.
For a wide plank design, should all of the strips of wood be the same size?
Actually, no, the planks don't have to be the same size. On a good glue up, you don't even notice the glue seams. The only time symmetrical pieces may be necessary is when you want to uplay the seams and character of the wood, as is common with rustic/farmhouse design.
What if I want Live Edge?
Our selection of live edge slabs is always changing. Stop by to see if something catches your eye.
There is also the option of a faux live edge. This starts with a plank style countertop and the edge is tooled by hand to mimic live edge. The secret with creating a beautiful faux edge often lies in the finishing, using burning or glazing techniques to create age and depth.
Custom CNC Inlay
Yes, you can design a conference table or countertop that will be remembered, with your logo or (any line art) inlaid in a contrasting wood or epoxy.
